ALS signed "John G. Whittier," one page both sides, 6.75 x 9, May 4, 1880. In part: "Excuse me for not copying the whole of the Poem thee ask for. I find it difficult to use my pen beyond the absolute necessities of correspondence." Below and on the reverse, he pens an "Extract from 'The Answer,'" beginning: "The sweet persuasion of His voice, / Respects thy sanctity of will; / He giveth day, thou hast thy choice / To walk in darkness still." Whittier signs again at the conclusion. In fine condition.
