English physiologist (1850-1935) regarded as a founder of endocrinology, who discovered and demonstrated the existence of adrenaline and coined the terms 'endocrine' and 'insulin.' ALS signed “E. A. Schafer,” one page, 5 x 8, Physiological Laboratory, University College, London letterhead, November 28, 1888. Letter to Dr. Allchin, recommending a colleague. In part: "There is a very good man from here in for your Curatorship. I am very sorry to lose him from this place but have promised to assist him with a testimonial. If you are wise you will secure him. He is a very nice gentlemanly fellow, & a splendid draughtsman." In fine condition, with a light diagonal crease.
