TLS signed “Spencer,” one page, 8.25 x 11.75, Althorp letterhead, March 18, 2002. Letter offering a tender remembrance of his sister, Princess Diana, and her kindness toward him. In part: "One of my earlier memories is of my sister Diana's 7th birthday—I would have been four at the time. My father, who always loved to give imaginative parties for his children and grandchildren, wanted to do something special for this celebration. I remember us wonderin what was going on, when a large ramp of dark wooden sleepers was built against the side of our dogs' kennels, with a platform on top. July 1st, the birthday, arrived, and it was a beautifully hot summer's day, our schoolfriends running around the lawn with us, playing the usual party games. It was then that the party changed from being the normal to the extraordinary: a large horsebox arrived, and out of the back stepped a man in a peaked cap leading…a dromedory! The dromedory's name was Bert, and he was borrowed from the local zoo. Bert was led up and down the lawn giving us rides in a jerky, lunging movement, as we swayed around on his two humps, shrieking with childish joy. My father filmed this event with his cine camera, and this footage is part of the Diana Exhibition at Althorp; a uniquely happy, original afternoon, that set a new level in local parental competition to provide their child with the most memorable birthday of all." In fine condition, with light creasing to the upper left corner.
