Description

Sought-after Van Halen guitar pick used on stage by Eddie Van Halen during the band’s 1982 Diver Down Tour. The bronze tortoise shell pick bears the golden Van Halen name and logo to the front with a blank reverse. Included with the pick is an ALS signed “Ed,” one page, 4.25 x 5.25, Hotel Parker, Meridien, New York stationery, no date (circa 1980s), addressed to Van Halen’s publicist Steve Mandel, in full: “If I’m not here I’m in Gene’s room 1521—the elevators are across from the front desk.” In overall fine condition, with some folds and creases to letter. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from REAL, as well certificates of authenticity signed by Mandel, who affirms that the pick and letter derive from his personal collection.

The referenced "Gene" is in fact Gene Simmons, who in 1976-77 signed a management and production contract with Van Halen. He produced a Van Halen demo tape and attempted to find a record deal for the band with a variety of major record labels. When no deal materialized, he released them from their contract. Although no longer in business, Simmons and the band remained friendly and Simmons often socialized with Van Halen when they toured in the early 1980s.
