Description

Jean-Leon Gerome writes about the tomb of Eugene Delacroix

French painter and sculptor (1824-1904) remembered for bringing the Academic painting tradition to an artistic climax. ALS in French, signed “J. L. Gerome,” one page both sides, 4 x 6, no date. Handwritten letter to "Dauzats" concerning the tomb of Eugene Delacroix. Dauzats is a member of the commission supervising the construction of a tomb for Eugène Delacroix, and Gérôme has heard that the commission has not settled on an architect. Gérôme recommends his friend Davioud for the job. In fine condition. An interesting letter associating one French master with another.
