Description

Czech conductor, composer, and art collector/dealer (1872-1936) who moved to the United States and conducted the New York Philharmonic from 1911 to 1923. Before his death, Stransky amassed a private art collection that included more than 50 major impressionist and post-impressionist paintings by Picasso, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Renoir, Monet, Manet, Degas, Cézanne, Matisse, and others. Scarce vintage pearl-finish 6 x 8 photo of Stránský in a head-and-shoulders pose, signed and inscribed in fountain pen in German, "Josef Stransky, New York 1912." The photo is affixed to a same-size mount. In very good to fine condition, with some light staining, and light silvering to the darker areas of the image.
