British soldier and administrator (1861-1936) most famous for his role during World War I, in which he led the Egyptian Expeditionary Force in the conquest of Palestine and Syria in 1917 and 1918. Two ALSs signed "Allenby," both one page, 5 x 8, The Residency (Cairo) letterhead, dated circa 1923. The first, in part: "Many thanks for your book of poems 'Two Gardens,' which I am delighted to have"; and the second: "I offer you my best wishes for your kind letter of sympathy, on the death of my mother." Catherine Anne (Cane) Allenby died in 1922. In overall fine condition.
