Description

The last known surviving member of the Union Army (1850-1956) who served in the American Civil War; he was also the last surviving Civil War veteran on either side whose status is undisputed. ALS signed “Respy yours, in F.C.L., Albert Woolson, Sr. Vice, Commander in Chief, No. G.A.R.,” one page, 5 x 7.5, April 15, 1952. Handwritten letter from Woolson, penned by him at the age of 102, in part (spelling and grammar retained): "Hon Kenneth Grouch, your kind interesting word to me Receivd. I regard to some…of Civil War Days I do not Have any thing of that Kind But May Later. My Folks and Heard a part of that…program you speak of write again I have very ansiring correspondence." In fine condition.
