Scholar, jurist, opponent of slavery (1726-1806) who was the first of the seven Virginia signatories of the Declaration of Independence. Wythe was the first law professor in the United States and was a mentor to Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, John Marshall, and other Virginia leaders. ADS, signed “G. Wythe,” one page, 7 x 3, March 6, 1798. In full: "The injunction is awarded, on a release of errors, and security given in the penalty of seventy dollars." Impressively double-matted and framed with two plaques, an engraving, and an image of the George Wythe House in Williamsburg, Virginia, to an overall size of 19.25 x 15. In fine condition.
