Description

Sought-after partly-printed vellum DS, signed “J. Tyler" as president and "J. C. Calhoun" as secretary of state, one page, 12.75 x 15.5, October 21, 1844. Scalloped-top ship's pass issued to the "Brig Edward, Thomas J. Southworth master or commander of the burthen of 133 37/95 tons or thereabouts mounted with no guns navigated with twenty one men." Signed at the conclusion by President John Tyler, and countersigned below by Secretary of State John C. Calhoun and Collector of Customs Joseph T. Adams. The embossed seal is no longer present. Archivally mounted and framed to an overall size of 17 x 19.5. In fine condition, with scattered small stains.
