Description

Partly-printed DS, signed “James Madison" as president and "Jas. Monroe" as secretary of state, one page, 20.75 x 16.5, April 6, 1812. A four-language ship’s papers issued to Henry Holdridge, “master or commander of the Brig called the Joseph Ricketson…lying at present in the port of New York bound for Petersburgh.” Signed in the middle section by Madison and Monroe. Two embossed paper seals remain affixed along the left edge. In very good condition, with overall creasing, edge tears, areas of paper loss, and toning to the lower portion; both signatures are bold and unaffected by any flaws.
