ALS in Yiddish, one page, 8.25 x 5.75, La Colline letterhead, January 29, 1973. Unsigned handwritten letter to Israeli journalist and writer David Giladi, in part (translated): "Thank you for the letter, and your great article in it. I hope our God will help me, as he has so far, and will give me years of health. After all, so far I have not taken any step that will be beneficial to our people, and perhaps to others as well… The time has come now to let Israel live without being saddened by thoughts. I'm in my studio like in Israel—at least from a distance." In very good to fine condition, with light staining to the left side. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Chagall's hand, incorporating his surname in the return address on the reverse.
