Description

Swedish film director, screenwriter, and actor (1879-1960) who began his career in Sweden before moving to Hollywood in 1924. Sweden's most prominent director in the ‘Golden Age of Silent Film’ in Europe, Sjostrom is perhaps best known for his influential 1921 fantasy film The Phantom Carriage. Rare ALS signed with his American name, "Victor Seastrom," one page, 8.5 x 11, MGM Studios letterhead, May 5, 1926. Handwritten letter to Mr. Doxtater, in full: "I am very sorry to say that it is entirely impossible for me to aid you in obtaining a position here, as I have no influence and have nothing at all to do with matters of this kind. Regretting that I am not able to aid you." In fine condition. Sjostrom is quite rare across all signed formats, with this being just the second signature we have ever offered.
