Youngest daughter (1884-1979) and secretary of the noted Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy. TLS signed “A. Tolstoy,” one page, 5 x 8, March 28, 1933. Letter to Mrs. John B. Gay, in part: "People are asleep and misfortunes, that are happening will certainly arouse them, as the misfortunes in Russia have aroused the Russian people. Both Trotsky and Lenin were tyrants, who believed in using force and terror against people, so they were certainly no better than the Tzar. Your liberals are greatly mistaken to think, that the Bolshevicks are a progressive group. They are the most conservative group for they are against freedom for the people they are the most terrible capitalists, for they have robbed the people, made a beggar out of them and have concentrated capital in the hands of a few—the government." In very good to fine condition, with light creasing, and a paperclip impression to the top edge. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
