Soldier, lawyer, and statesman from Virginia (1736-1790) who was one of the first two U.S. Senators from Virginia, and belonged to the Anti-Federalist faction; he was also the first member of the United States Congress to die while holding office. Autograph document signed twice, “Will’m Grayson,” one page, both sides, 12 x 7.5, June 18, 1774. Legal document from Dumfries, Virginia, with Grayson listing the names of several citizens relating to fees of Prince William County. Grayson signs at the conclusion and on the reverse below a receipt of payment: “Rec’d of Mr. William Beanthwaite the within sum of twenty two pounds ten shillings.” In fine condition.
