Amidst the Great Depression, Hoover pauses diplomatic appointments: "We are saving every penny we can for the moment"

TLS as president, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, July 16, 1932. Letter to the Hon. Herman Bernstein, minister to Albania. In part: "I do not expect to be making any appointment to Czechoslovakia until the next session of Congress, first because the Minister could not draw any salary until confirmed, and second because with reduced appropriations we are saving every penny we can for the moment." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
