American playwright and screenwriter (1905-1984) best known for such classics as The Children's Hour, The Little Foxes, and Watch on the Rhine. ALS signed “Love, L.,” one page both sides, 5.25 x 6.75, Caneel Bay Plantation letterhead, December 25. Letter to her publisher, Stanley Salmen, in full: "It's O.K., I guess, all full of those who have solved things, or act it; built & run for refinement. I worked this awful day of nonsense. I swam. I sailed. I hated the polite martini and remembered my father who always refused these conventions and left his cut-up daughter, evidently, to observe them. It's 2 A.M. and I'm going for a swim and may bump into the sting ray I saw today from the deck, and may marry him if he'll have me." In fine condition.
