American soldier and jurist (1755-1795) who served as the second US attorney general from 1794-95. Two documents signed by Bradford: a manuscript DS, signed "William Bradford, Attorney General" [of Pennsylvania], one page, 7.75 x 6.75, July 1783, a legal brief outlining the particulars of an assault case; and an ADS, signed “W. Bradford, Jr., Atty Genl,” one page, 8.5 x 6.75, October 1788. Bill of complaint filed by Bradford on behalf of the state against William Cowan, Jr., for fornicating with Eve Rippleogle resulting in the birth of a bastard child, which was against the “dignity” of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. At the time of this document he was Prothonotary of Bedford County. Cowan was found guilty. In overall good to very good condition, with splits to intersecting folds.
