Written from Baltimore, a letter to Captain John Sergeant Wise, in full: "I received your kind letter of 24th. ult. as I was about to leave home, and after my return, it required some time to make such arrangements with those with whom I had engagements as would enable me to say definitely that I could attend the ceremonies at Riverside on Memorial Day. I have just effected the necessary arrangements, and have sent my acceptance of the invitation today. It only remains for me to thank you for your kind letter and assure you that I appreciate it very sincerely." The lower portion appears to be annotated and initialed by Wise. In fine condition. Accompanied by the original War Department envelope.
