American soldier and poet (1748-1828) who commanded the elite Livingston Battalion in the Revolutionary War, who has been proposed as being the uncredited author of the poem 'A Visit from St. Nicholas,' popularly known (after its first line) as 'The Night Before Christmas.' Manuscript DS, signed “Henry Livingston,” one page, 7.5 x 12, February 3, 1790. Agreement between Robert Livingston and John Cring concerning a furnace and associated stocks of ore and coal. Signed at the conclusion by Livingston as a witness. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light staining, and splitting to fold ends.
