Description

American physician, politician, and diplomat (1779-1824) best known for giving his name to the poinsettia plant. ALS signed “J. R. Poinsett,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, March 27, 1824. Letter to Robert Gilman, asking that he forward a letter before discussing some political matters and a holiday invitation. In part: "We have still this vile tariff before us, I fear it will pass our house. Mr. Smith writes me, that he…entirely recovered his health." Addressed on the integral leaf by Poinsett, and franked in the upper right, "Free, J. R. Poinsett." In very good to fine condition, with seal-related paper loss affecting a few words of text.
