Union general (1818-1893) who, at the beginning of the Civil War, was appointed as Chief Quarter Master of the Army of the Potomac. In 1864, his close friend and classmate, General U.S. Grant, appointed him chief quartermaster of all Union armies operating against Richmond. Desirable 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite bust photo of Ingalls in uniform, signed at the bottom of the image in ink, "Rufus Ingalls, B't Maj. Genl., Dep. Qr. Mr. Genl." In fine condition.
