Description

TLS in French, signed “Faulkner,” one page, 8.5 x 11, May 3. Letter to French writer and critic Monique Lange concerning hotel reservations in Paris for his mistress, a delicate and discreet situation. In part (translated): "The arrival of Else in Paris will happen on May 19 very early in the morning by air. I have sent her the notice that she will stay in the Hotel du Beaujolais in the Rue du Beaujolais. A room has been reserved for her in the name of Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan. She can go from the airport to the hotel by taxi cab and wait for me there.

Me, I hope to arrive in Paris the same day but in the afternoon from London. I will also go immediately to the hotel Beaujolais and ask for the room reserved for Faulkner in the name of Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan. I have received from Mr. Bonnet the ambassador of France in the US the notice that I will be an official guest of the government of France during the visit. But you know the personality of your godfather. He wants liberty. He wants complete liberty always. But I have to admit that you owe always something to this country that you love. But we will cross this river when we reach it as we can say in transatlantic French. If any of this about the hotel and the name is wrong will you write to Else and tell her what to do when she reaches Paris. We never want to trouble Jean Jacques in such interesting conditions." In very good to fine condition, with a light stain, and some paper loss, to the lower right corner area.
