Original vintage glossy 9 x 7 AP wirephoto of President John F. Kennedy shaking hands with an early Peace Corps volunteer in 1961. Reverse is stamp-dated August 30, 1961, and bears an affixed newspaper clipping. In very good condition, with heavy editorial touch-ups to gray-out the background, and horizontal crazing cracks to the emulsion.
President Kennedy issued Executive Order 10924 on March 1, 1961, directing the State Department to establish a temporary Peace Corps; later that year on September 22, 1961, the Peace Corps Act was enacted by Congress.
