Highly decorated British field marshal (1832-1914) best known for leading the British victory during the Second Boer War. TLS signed "Yours very sincerely, Roberts, F.M.," one page, 4.25 x 5.25, Englemere letterhead, November 1914. Roberts writes to "Miss Barbara," in full: "I am glad to hear you and your sister have started a Society to help the children of our brave soldiers and sailors, who are doing so much for our country on the battlefield, and I think it is very kind of you to ask me to be a Patron, I would gladly give my name, but I think you would find it better to get some people in your own neighborhood to help you." Permanently affixed to a larger scrapbook page, with a handwritten letter by 'Prince Hassan of Egypt' affixed on the opposite side. In fine condition, with some rippling due to adhesive.
