Third-person ALS signed within the text, "Gen'l Houston," and with an elaborate paraph, one page, 5 x 8, January 1, 1858. In part: "Gen'l Houston has the pleasure of presenting to Mrs. Jackson Smith his regards & holy day greetings." In very good condition, with complete splits to horizontal folds (repaired with archival tape on the reverse) and some light foxing. Accompanied by a contemporary three-page letter from "Sally" to "A. Jackson Smith," in which she says to give her "respects to Gen. Houston" in the closing line.
