German naval officer (1881-1966) who earned the nickname ‘Sea Devil’ for his legendary maritime exploits during World War I. Vintage matte-finish 10 x 14.25 portrait of Luckner in his study, signed and inscribed in the lower border in ink, "To my old friend Dr. Dale Osborne with a shipload of good wishes from the Sea-Devil, Felix Count Luckner, Cincinnati 3-XII-50.” In the upper left, he writes: "Ships may sink, the memories of good friends never!" Matted and framed to an overall size of 16.25 x 21.25. In fine condition.
