AQS signed twice, “John G. Whittier” and “J. G. W.,” one page, 6.75 x 8.25, written from Oak Knoll in Danvers, Massachusetts, in 1878. The quote is a stanza from his poem ‘The Voices,’ which was later published in the volume Anti-slavery Poems: Songs of Labor and Reform, in full: “Do then thy work: it shall succeed / In thine or in another's day; / And, if denied the victor's meed / Thou shalt not lack the toiler's pay.” In fine condition, with a small stain and light creasing.
