Description

Gossip columnist, author, and socialite (1883-1963) known for her high society parties and the introduction of the scavenger hunt as a party game. TLS signed “Elsa,” four pages two sets of adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, The Waldorf-Astoria letterhead, November 24, 1934. The first, in part: "I want you to be the first to clap your pornographic eye on my lovely friend, Princess Natalie Paley. She is going to Hollywood to play opposite Maurice Chevalier in Follies Bergere in the French edition. I hope you will make your own test of her. She may have great potentialities, for she knows how to walk and talk, sing and dance, and suffer, dearie,—which is important, I am told." The second, in part: "It seems I have made a great success as a comedian. I never expected to get real dramatic notices because, naturally, the critics are always resentful of that mythical thing called social position. However, I walked away with the dramatic notices of the play, which amused me no end. When you have a high comedy Marie Dressler part let me know and I will give you a surprise. The first act of the play is very good, the second act bad. It is being rewritten now and put into rehearsal this week which should pull us into a good run." In fine condition. Accompanied by one original transmittal envelope, addressed to Cukor in type.
