Collection of over 110 original single-panel cartoons accomplished in pencil by McDonnell Douglas engineer Rich Holmen on individual 8 x 5 sheets, exploring the culture, challenges, and accomplishments of the firm during the 1970s. The cartoons are at times humorous, incisive, and serious, offering tremendous insight into the company as it developed the Skylab space station—they often involve gags with engineers giving presentations, comment on the space station proposal or NASA's requirements, or involve intra-office politics. Many are signed in the corner by Holmen, often with a witty comment (e.g. "Nicely drawn by Rich Holmen who thinks our proposal is outstanding" and "Anonymously drawn by Rich Holmen"). Also includes an apparently self-published booklet entitled "Inside the External Tank," reprinting Holmen's cartoons chronicling McDonnell's efforts to develop the Space Shuttle's external tank. In overall fine condition.
