Description

Gene Cernan’s attractive golden plaque issued by the City of Chicago and Mayor Richard J. Daley, which declares that “Monday, June 30, 1969 to be a day of commemoration of the flight of Apollo 10.” The plaque, 12 x 18, reads, in part: “Resolution adopted by The City Council of the City of Chicago, Illinois, Presented by Honorable Richard J. Daley, Mayor on behalf of himself and the other members of the City Council, Whereas on May 26, 1969, eight years and a day after President John F. Kennedy summoned us to the adventure of space, Colonel Thomas P. Stafford, USAF, and Commander Eugene A. Cernan, USN, and Commander John W. Young, USN, completed a voyage that took them and all mankind to the threshold of interplanetary travel, and on the first step of discovery in this galaxy and beyond.” The plaque is set under Plexiglas and mounted to a wooden 15 x 21 mount. In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Novaspace Gene Cernan Garage Sale.
