Attractive pair of original paintings by renowned cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, accomplished in watercolor on individual 12 x 9.5 sheets of artist's paper, both signed on the right side in graphite, with Leonov also adding notations and titles to the reverse in Cyrillic. The first work, entitled 'The Construction of the Central Square,' depicts the Baikonur Cosmodrome while being built, with the area paved and traffic lines marked, and the desert dominating the right side; the second work, entitled ‘The Construction Is Completed,’ shows Baikonur’s surrounding houses, with department store and residential building with post-office. These paintings are depicted in the book Life Among Stars by Leonov and Andrei Sokolov. In overall fine condition. In addition to being a member of the first Soviet cosmonaut group and being the first ever human to conduct a spacewalk, Leonov is an accomplished, award-winning space artist.
