English playwright and Oscar-winning screenwriter (1924-1995) who wrote the screenplays for Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago, and A Man for All Seasons. TLS, one page, 8 x 10, December 2, 1981. Letter responding to an admirer, in part: "I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the film and the play of 'A Man For All Seasons' so much. I was fairly closely involved with the making of the film since in the first place, of course, I wrote the script for it. The director (Fred Zinneman) and I are old friends and saw the problems of the film in the same way. I was sorry to have to lose the character of the Common Man when the film was made, but there was no way I could see of translating it into film terms. I expect you came to the same conclusion when you and your class compared the film with the stage play." In fine condition.
