Note written to the wife of Kentucky Congressman Garnett Duncan, who visited Washington, D.C. in 1847 and befriended the destitute former first lady, often presenting her with food packages. In full: "Mrs. Madison's love and thanks to Mrs. Duncan for her excellent present." Archivally mounted, matted, and framed with an attractive engraved portrait to an overall size of 11 x 15.75. In fine condition, with light soiling and intersecting folds.
