Description

French painter (1770-1837) best remembered for his portraits, who served as baron of the Empire in 1809, an officer of the legion d'honneur, and was first painter to the king under both Napoleon and Louis XVIII. ALS in French, signed “F. Gerard,” one page, 6.25 x 7.75, February 24, 1825. Handwritten letter by the painter, in part (translated): "I had had the honor to say to the count that Mr. La Roche had announced that he would visit my studio today. The vicomte had told me of the intention of the king to buy my painting but that the price would be fixed according to the opinion of his majesty and it happens to be the same that the count had initially indicated. And in this circumstance I confirm it. I will write him a text explaining this. I flatter myself to always have the honor to see him on Sunday afternoon." In fine condition.
