Description

Physicist (1797-1878) who conducted experiments in the field of electromagnetism and served as the first secretary of the Smithsonian Institute. Partly-printed DS, signed “Joseph Henry, Sec'y S. I.,” one page, 8 x 9.5, December 30, 1876. Receipt from the Smithsonian Institution, in full: "The Smithsonian Institution has received from J. H. Batchelder, Cambridge, Mass. One paper-folder made of Laminaria longicruris, a gift for which it returns a grateful acknowledgment." In fine condition, with light show-through along the left edge from old mounting remnants on the back.
