President Monroe requests his Treasury Secretary to furnish unsettled statements "distinguishing the several heads of civil, military, & naval"

ALS as president, one page, 7.75 x 9.75, November 10, 1823. Handwritten letter to Secretary of the Treasury William H. Crawford, in full: "I have to request that you will furnish me, a statement, of settlements made, since October 1st 1822, to the 30th of September, 1823, with a statement of the amount remaining unsettled, at the last mentioned date, distinguishing the several heads of civil, military, & naval, from each other. The statements now requir'd, are to be made, as you will observe, on the same principle, with those that were render'd last year, & are intended, to show the progress that has since been made in that important branch of public duties." In very good to fine condition, with some light stains, and nearly complete separation along the lower horizontal fold.
