ALS signed “M. V. Buren,” one page both sides, November 21, 1819. Letter to John Leake of Staten Island, in part: "I have not been able to learn what progress Sir…has made & am instilled to think that the certainty of the Vice President being governor…at all events you must re-examine your documents & be ready to pounce down upon him without mercy the moment he appears. As far as I can bear the part that the fifty six thousand dollars has been now allowed to us is conceded and that…only hope is that it has been allowed at Washington…my head is so full of other matters that I forget…I enclosed the Vice President a letter from my friend…which contains some private matters, as it is possible that he may loose it I wish you would get it from him & burn it." In fine condition, with the integral address leaf detached but present. Accompanied by the handwritten and unfolded mailing envelope.
