Before joining Manfred Mann as their bass player, a stint that lasted from 1966 to 1969, Voorman famously befriended the Beatles when the group were making the rounds in Hamburg, Germany, in the early 1960s. While working in London in 1965, Voormann, a former art student at the Munich's Meisterschule für Mode, was asked by Lennon to design the cover to their upcoming record, Revolver. The result won the Grammy Award for Best Album Cover, Graphic Arts, and is now deemed an iconic piece of rock music history.
