Manuscript DS as president, signed “J. Tyler,” one page, 7.75 x 5.75, August 23, 1843. President John Tyler appoints an acting fourth auditor, in full: "I hereby authorize Thomas H. Gillip to act as Fourth Auditor of the Treasury for the period of four weeks from the present date, in case the Auditor should be so long absent from the Seat of Government." Signed neatly at the conclusion by Tyler. The document is affixed to a same-size sheet. In very good to fine condition, with trimmed edges, and creasing to the corners and left edge.
