(Walt Disney Studios, 1940) Original concept painting of Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio, which shows the goodhearted cricket dressed as a tramp and emerging from a smoking pipe near the start of the film. Jiminy’s expression is in keeping with the scene, which takes place at the very moment the Blue Fairy comes into the house, addresses Geppetto, and brings life to Pinocchio. To his astonishment, the cricket chirps: ‘As I live and breathe, a Fairy!’ Accomplished in gouache on 9.25 x 6.75 on artist board. Archivally double-matted and framed to an overall size of 21 x 18.5. In fine condition. An outstanding concept art piece from a famous and memorable Disney moment.
