Vermont politician (1810-1898) who was a founder of the Republican Party and is remembered for the Morrill Land-Grant Acts that established federal funding for establishing many of the United States' public colleges and universities. Desirable 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of Morrill taken by Mathew Brady in 1865, signed in ink, "J. S. Morrill." Reverse bears an affixed revenue stamp and is marked: "M.B. Brady & Co., National Photographic Portrait Galleries, No. 352 Pennsylvania Av., Washington, D.C. & New York." In fine condition.
