Representative from Pennsylvania (1792-1868) who opposed fugitive slave laws and urged emancipation. Uncommon 2.25 x 4 photo of Stevens taken by Mathew Brady in 1865, neatly signed in ink, "Thaddeus Stevens." Reverse bears an affixed revenue stamp and is marked: "M.B. Brady & Co., National Photographic Portrait Galleries, No. 352 Pennsylvania Av., Washington, D.C. & New York." In fine condition, with some very light foxing.
