Swedish electrical engineer and plasma physicist (1908-1995) who won the 1970 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on magnetohydrodynamics. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, University of California, San Diego letterhead, January 17, 1973. Letter concerning a space expedition to an asteroid, in full: "Like quite a few other people I have suggested that NASA send space missions to asteroids. Which of the asteroids should be selected is still open to question. A NASA panel, under the chairmanship of Dr. Ernst Stuhlinger, wrote a memorandum (NASA Technical Memorandum TM X-64677 'Comets and Asteroids: A Strategy for Exploration,' May 1972) which was strongly endorsed by Dr. Homer Newell. A new panel, under the chairmanship of Professor Fred Whipple, is working out programs in detail." In fine condition. Accompanied by a matte-finish 8 x 10 photograph of a rocket, signed in ink by rocket scientist Ernst Stuhlinger.
