Description

Original double-sided issue of the Lynchburg Virginian from March 17, 1865, 11 x 16.25, with news on the rebellion, international affairs, and political happenings. The paper makes note that "Gen. Lee is now appealing earnestly for more troops, and is anxious that the proposed conscription of negroes should have a fair trial," provides a "sketch of the occupation of Charlottesville by Sheridan's raiders," reports on "the Burning of Columbia," and offers rewards for runaway slaves. Matted and framed with glass on both sides to an overall size of 17 x 23. In fine condition.
