Manuscript document related to the Potomac Company, a project created in 1785 to make improvements to the Potomac River and improve its navigability for commerce. Three pages, 9 x 15, March 12, 1793, consisting of an indenture between Matthew Huizinga Messchert of Philadelphia and Snellen and Messchert of Rotterdam, “whereas by certain acts of assembly of the States of Virginia and Maryland for the purpose of forming and incorporating a company to extend the Navigation of the River Potowmack from Trade Water as far upwards as the same could well be carried.” The document concludes with the assignment of shares relative to the company’s bookkeeping. Signed at the conclusion by Messchert next to the original white paper seal. In fine condition.
