Extremely rare original program from the funeral of Malcolm X on February 27, 1965, twelve pages, 5 x 7.5, with the front cover reading: "In Memorium of Haj Malik Shabazz (the former Malcolm X) who died martyred for the cause of Islam and the enlightenment and uplifting of his people." The front cover is annotated in ballpoint with the date, with another notation blacked out. In fine condition.
Hosted at the Faith Temple of the Church of God in Christ in Harlem, the funeral of Malcolm X attracted Civil Rights leaders such as John Lewis, Bayard Rustin, James Forman, James Farmer, Jesse Gray, and Andrew Young. Actor and activist Ossie Davis delivered the eulogy, proclaiming Malcolm X as 'our shining black prince…who didn't hesitate to die because he loved us so.' Loudspeakers were set up outdoors for the overflow crowd, and a local television station carried a live broadcast of the service.
