Ink signature and inscription, "To Stephen from, Winston S. Churchill, 1951,” on an off-white 5 x 7.5 book page. In very good condition, with toning from prior display, and slight surface loss along the top and bottom edges. The recipient, Stephen Locker-Lampson (1937-2012), was the son of Commander Oliver Locker-Lampson, a decorated WWI hero and British Conservative Party politician. Stephen recalls being taken by his father, as a young teenager, to meet the Prime Minister: 'I was ushered into Churchill's office and offered my hand to the Prime Minister to which he responded in a gruff voice, 'No, not until we've been introduced properly.' My father then said, 'Mr. Prime Minister, I'd like to introduce my son Stephen.' We then shook hands and Churchill invited us to be seated and spoke to me for some minutes before presenting me with a copy of his book 'My Early Life,' which he then inscribed for me.'
