Description

Eminent and versatile Swiss-born American zoologist and geologist (1807-1873) who carried out much of his research as a longtime faculty member at Harvard, where he was also instrumental in building the university’s enviable natural history collection. ALS in French, signed “L. Agassiz,” one page, 5 x 7.5, May 12, 1859. Letter concerning some publications to be sent to the Prince of Musignano, a relative of Napoleon Bonaparte. In part (translated): "Having been occupied this winter with different research estranged from the publications I am currently working on, I remit only a part of the materials I would have to send to the Prince of Musignano. You will receive now the second volume of memoires of the Société Helvétique, if you will be so kind as to send to Mr. Coulon who is in charge of that publication, and also my work on Echinoderms and a memoire of Mr. Tschudi." In very good condition, with several stains, one of which touches the signature, and complete backing to repair a tear along the hinge.
