Description

French naturalist and zoologist (1769-1832) who is sometimes referred to as the 'founding father of paleontology.' A major figure in natural sciences research in the early 19th century, he was instrumental in establishing the fields of comparative anatomy and paleontology through his work in comparing living animals with fossils. Manuscript DS in French, signed “B. G. Cuvier,” one page, 8.5 x 13.25, August 22, 1825. Academie Royale des Sciences document communicating the election of a new member, signed at the conclusion by Cuvier. In very good to fine condition, with a stain to the lower left corner, and creasing and tears to the top edge.
